As someone that runs a web service that's SL-centric, if LL were to
open up an auth system like Twitter uses for third party website
authentication, it could be a huge lead the way to a huge expansion of
web/SL integration. (I would happily start using it - it'd limit the
number of password reset request I have to deal with, etc!)

Not that LL is planning on doing that, but the foundation is being laid.
