Chiming in late - when we were looking for a happy-licensed KDU
alternative (mid-late 2007) we tested both OpenJPEG and JasPer against a
typical SL data set.
OpenJPEG was (a bit) faster and better-maintained, so we went with
that.
Lots of things (dominant system architectures, our usage patterns,
project churn) have changed since then - re-evaluation is a great
idea. Although the library's speed is only one of many axes. :)
