[opensource-dev] Replacement for QuickTime media plugin - a straw man proposal

It would be a lot of work to come up with a per-platform decoder for say,
MPEG4 files. I'm not aware of a way to decode media into a buffer on
Windows for example that works across all versions - as far as I remember,
you have to set up Windows Media player before it'll do anything.
