Greetings.
You've got another advocate and administrator on the inside. Henceforth,
I will be working with Ron Lanphier on the OpenSL initiative. For
starters, I'll be focusing on licensing issues with the rest of my role
TBD. I asked Rob what my title should be and he suggested "Development
Policy Wonk," to which I would add Miscellaneous Project Wrangler.
I've been at Linden Lab since Jan '06 and an SL resident since '05. I
spent the last year working on governance scalability issues. Before
coming to LL, I worked in the publishing industry as a writer, editor,
designer and production manager. Most recently, I was Art Director at
the the open-access journal publisher Public Library of Science, where
we made science both /gratis /and /libre/. I worked closely with
contributors and with Creative Commons on legal issues surrounding our
use of the Attribution (by) license on all content.
Disclaimer: I'm not a coder; I'm not a lawyer.
I am here to help. My first order of business is to clear any backlog in
licensing at lindenlab.com and respond to current licensing questions in
the wiki and jira. This will take some time. I need to get up to speed
on the intricate and important questions many of you have raised and,
when necessary, discuss them with our legal group. You patience is
appreciated. And, your efforts to efficiently organize and communicate
your requests are not only appreciated but critical.
For the time being, please use the following protocol:
-Announce an issue or ask a question in SLDev
-Take conversations to the wiki (noting the link in SLDev)
-Make jira requests for actionable items and post constructive comments
and design recommendations there.
You can also:
-Email specific or private requests for license info to
licensing at lindenlab.com
-Contact me directly at liana at lindenlab.com.
Currently, I hold office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-9:30
am PDT. Feel free to stop by:
Liana Linden Living Room in Ambleside (132, 14, 29)

You all have my thanks and admiration for the work you've done on
OpenSL Cheers,
Liana Holmberg
