I wanted to comment on the pros/cons of the new Communication Window - I
didn't like it at first either. But after some intensive hours using Talk
(the auditions for Hamlet at SLGlobe) that forced us to deal with a variety
of issues (feedback, static, clipping, echo, volume levels, audible range,
more) - I like Communication Window now. It allowed me to deal with
simultaneous Chat, group and individual IMs, and Talk all at the same time,
without having too many little windows open. And I like being able to
access Group info and activation in the same window as IM and friends list.
It's going to take time to integrate Talk into our SL routines, and it was
obvious that different avatars (the people behind them) have very different
ways of hearing it and dealing with it.

Another observation is that most people perceive delays in audible input as
lasting longer than delays in visual input. It seems as thought the
priorities in SL are to favor visual over audio? If so, that should be
reversed.
