[sldev] Seeking feedback on VWR-738

Hi folks!

I'm looking for some feedback on my proposed Linux workaround for:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-738 'SL crashes when loading with
a GTK_IM scim module'.

The workaround is simple but I'm seeking feedback (on pjira please) on
1) How universal or widespread the problem is to begin with for people
who use international input methods - I can easily reproduce it on
Feisty when GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
2) The ramifications of forcing GTK_IM_MODULE in that case to either
xim or gtk-im-context-simple (or something else).  Either one avoids the
crash nicely, and SDL itself assumes XIM (I believe) but it would be
nice to not break international input on our (few) GTK widgets.
