Well, it just seems it's hard to make everybody happy.

My ideal version of the list is like today. I imagine that's on the "way
too much traffic" from your POV.

Lindens seem to prefer low traffic. I find that extremely unappealing as
that policy effectively stops discussion before it even starts. Why
start it when it's going to be interrupted anyway?

But recently I heard concerns of that activity has been low lately, and
people have been wondering why. This is kind of hard to reconcile with
the "the list should be low traffic" policy.

My suggestion, if you really think this is too much traffic, is to split
the mailing list.

sldev for your "low traffic" concept.
sldev-announce for announcements (which people say they want)
sldev-detail for long detailed discussions on some subject

Any reasonable mail client has lots of features to deal with a high
traffic list: threading, mark thread as read, filters to sort messages
into folders, filters to mark messages by interesting people or with
specific content, etc.

For example, my client marks people from @lindenlab.com, with "Linden"
in the name, or which mention my name in the text. I mark whole threads
as read without reading quite often.

Note: Just to make things perfectly clear I don't disagree so much with
the assesment as with the way of handling the problem.

Ah, darn. Looks like I happened to miss right that part.

So there you have pretty much what I'd have said above.

Time to get back to coding, I guess.
