Totally.   I believe that one challenge with such a request is that the 
set of information you can see varies based on you role relative to the 
region.  So, maybe there could be a public-info request that has only 
the totally public data, which would presumably include the varying 
names.  Actually, it'd be interesting to compile a list of what 
information is already public about a region, that would remove an 
additional step in the implementation of a 'public-region-info' API.

Please note, this is not my area of development, and there might already 
be an internal implementation or plan to do something similar that I 
don't know about.
