Don't forget this is not so common in the world of windows. The unix so
name has been used for quite a while but with .dlls you are sometimes
lucky to get any indication of what is going on. I have seen efforts at
so names with things like MFC42.DLL but most don't seem to bother.

But i agree sonames really are important and do stop this problem if the
library authors respect the rules.
