I went looking for a bug but somehow I missed this one...

I just tried that patch. I still don't get a login screen so I'm not
sure what the point is.

Well my plan of ignoring the "new auth" flamewar until it swims up and
bites me in the ass has been a resounding success.

Before I waste a lot of time on it, 1.18.6 *does* work if you have
llmozlib, right?
