[sldev] alternative os support?

Wow, another BSD person.  Awesome.

I'm todd at openbsd.org, where I actually use my commit privileges now and then
;-)

I'd be glad to generalize this patch to be more BSD agnostic, mind doing
a little legwork?

Apologies to the list if this doesn't seem relevant, but I have a feeling
this will be useful info for others as well.

I don't have access to a FreeBSD system, so could you share your output
of the following two commands?

I guess we could settle on 'LL_BSD' and we could only use #if/etc __OpenBSD__
(__FreeBSD__ ??) etc where absolutely necessary... since I don't see anything
denoting BSD in the below other than __OpenBSD__ ..
