Ah, thought this was about the 
"CPU: Can't get terse CPU information" in the Linux about dialog.

Haven't used the Windows client in nearly a year, so no clue what things
are like there.

Point still stands though, on Linux /proc/cpuinfo should be the easiest
and most accurate way to do it.
