[sldev] compiling the viewer

Dear Max:

Thank you for collaborating with me. I am using FedoraCore6 and have all updates installed. This includes atk-1.0, gtk-2.0, glib-2.0, pango-1.0, cairo and scons. I was trying to compile 1.16.0.5, but will download 1.17.0.9 and try again this evening.

Perhaps you could kindly help me understand what steps are involved beyond untarring the two .tar.gz and the one .zip file into a common directory and then building. I understand from others that scons is used and although I have this on my system, I have not used it before.

I can't speak to building on windows but I might be able to help on the
linux side.  What distro are you using?

And are you using the lastest tar files 1.17.0.9?
