[sldev] compiling the viewer

Thank you for the Makefile. Can we put this somewhere on the wiki?

Here's a version that checks for both, g++34 and g++-3.4. (If there's a
better/cleaner/more standard way to do the same, please let me know.) So
it should run on most other systems, too.
