I suspect the biggest road block is scalability.   Once they have
scalability nailed so they can handle a "zillion" sims connected to
the grid, I suspect they'll be all over it as the profit potential is
near unlimited.

However, until scalability is nailed (if such a feat is possible),
open sourcing it would just be an invitation for people to fork.
