That's how the GPL works. There's a *specific* exception for  
components distributed as part of an operating system or by the  
publisher of the operating system, which is why gcc can be  
distributed with Interix (distributed by Microsoft) but not UWIN. So  
a GPLed SL on OSX could link with the Quicktime plugin API, but not  
on Windows.
