[sldev] Running SL on 16-bit color setting

Hi everybody,
You may know, SL Viewer does not support display setting less than 32-bit
color. If you try this, will see following message.
----
Second Life requires True Color (32-bit) to run in a window. Please go to
Control Panels -> Display -> Settings and set the screen to 32-bit color.
Alternately, if you choose to run fullscreen, Second Life will automatically
adjust the screen each time it runs.
----
The alternate way is not applicable, because detecting display setting runs
prior to detecting window mode (fullscreen or window). Anyway I believe it
will not run on the cases that video driver does not support true color
regardless of window mode.
So my question is 'Does viewer has any 32-bit color dependent code?'.
If yes, 'Where can I find it?' and 'How can I make it support lower setting
like 16-bit?'
Thanks.
Wegra.
