Be patient.  Projects like libsl and opensim will "keep LL honest".

It's not unprecedented for an open standard to start out as de facto, in 
fact that's how most of them get going.

It's not going to hurt anything in the near term to use source for 
documentation.  Long term that needs to change of course, but really, 
don't sweat it for now.
