Your inventory contains assets.

You change an asset in your inventory, changing its name or  
permissions, where does that happen?

If it happens in the agent server, then you've already answered the  
original question - the master copy is the instance of the inventory  
object in that server.

If it happens in the asset server, then the asset server it happens  
in has to trust the domain that you're making the change from.
