We're always receptive to patches. If you want a hint regarding stuff
that I'd personally love to see cleaned up, but that isn't broken enough
to qualify for a substantial amount of internal effort, take a look at
the pre-STL collection classes.
Replacing even one of those with an appropriate use of an STL container
would be very welcome, and I think that it will also give you an
appreciation for why we don't generally leap all over refactoring work,
for better or worse. (In other words, I'd recommend being very
conservative in your initial approach.)
