As long as you wrap the data access up in a nice class, I don't know if

In Python 2.x there are not interfaces in the language directly but there
are implementations
like one from the Zope project (also usable standalone). In Python 3 there
will be then
Abstract Base Classes. But that's still a bit ahead I think (although the
Alpha has
just been released IIRC).
