I vote that some people are not allowed posting there anyway without a
patch attached. Especially those that claim they're so good that by the
time they spent ranting they could have squashed a few bugs. How come we
have any open issues at all then.

Ok, we are that tolerant nowadays. As long as we're not forced to watch.
Not sure what's the point of adding /my/ 2 cents here, better don't read
on if you're pressed for time. But I feel compelled to say that I am
disappointed. Can't we be a bit more civilized and behave like adults.
We programmers are a proud bunch, that much is known. We squirm when we
have to read someone else's code - how dare this guy writing things any
other way than I would do. And often it takes a deliberate, conscious
effort to accept that a large project which has grown over years looks
more like an oriental bazaar than a shiny new shopping center that has
been planned and built in one go. Also to accept that the originator of
such a project may have different views about its future or its current
priorities than you or I happen to have in this moment of time. (That's
why they've given us the voting thingy.)
This project has been open sourced perhaps not without the reasoning
that it's grown bigger than the company that created it. Don't we all
wish that Microsoft would do such a thing! Well, no harm done here since
the viewer itself never was a package with a price tag. Still, that it's
out in the open now doesn't mean that we own it. It is Philip's baby
that we're invited to help improve, not to just take from him. Nor do we
own the people who are still nurturing it, as if they were to jump upon
a bark from somewhere in the rear rows.
But what irks me the most is how a list that is meant for technical
stuff gets hijacked by politics and poorly managed emotions. Sure I've
been griping, too, because the Lindens didn't provide a build file that
fits my new rig as opposed to their tried and trusted workhorse. And I
asked some questions that were dumb (won't be the last time either). But
I never set out to deliberately annoy everybody who reads here just to
push my point across. And I wish I won't have to endure such an outburst
again. I had a good portion of respect for some names I've seen around
for a long time, but I think that's gotten a dent.
And since you've read thus far... this 3D world is way too flat for me!
I want the z limit removed altogether, and a physics engine whose
gravitation behaviour can be tweaked so that we can build space stations
and asteroids and entire planets! And a box of chocolates every week,
hand signed by the Lindens.
Cheers,
Felix (who likes shopping in a bazaar much better)
