[sldev] [AWG][OGP] Planning Update

Hey there AWG:

We are super proud of what you all did this Summer. The OGP beta was a  
great, successful proof that an open grid can be built.

As you may be aware, Linden Lab has been going through a top-to-bottom  
strategy review. We apologize that it’s taken Zero and our OGP team  
away from the AWG and kept it from making progress over the last four  
months. The good news is, we’re nearing the end of the process, and  
Linden Lab remains totally committed to an Internet-scale, open grid.  
We believe that that is the future of virtual worlds.

For the next six weeks we’ll be working on our plan to move the OGP  
forward, and we’ll have it for you by the end of January. In the  
meantime, of course, we’d love to get your thoughts.

Thank you all again for bearing with us. To me personally, OGP and  
open virtual worlds are the most powerful things that will happen  to  
the Internet over the next five years. I know that  we'll find the  
best way to make this come about, and I’m excited that we'll be  
designing the future together.

Have a great winter holiday! I'll be on vacation most of the next two  
weeks, but I look forward to seeing you all at my office hours on  
January 6th, 2009.
