Groupware tools: I'm not even sure what exactly this means (very fuzzy
term), but if you want email, calendars, etc then it's doable without LL's
involvement. Just provide your own servers to host it, or develop an
interface to an existing provider (if any exist, I'm not familiar with
this subject)

Web browsing: I don't see why this needs LL's involvement at all. Gecko is
already integrated. Really for basic browsing you could take the help
window and add an URL bar to it. I'm not sure if Flash would work, but
this again needs no server-side changes.

Webcam feeds: This is doable already if you want to have avatar to avatar
conversations, in a somewhat hackish manner. It would need LL support for
usage in group conferencing and such, but nothing prevents an initial
implementation of the concept.

Collaborative editing of office documents: To be honest, I'm not even sure
what that should look like. It sounds like a pretty major project. I'm
also not sure whether this fits well in SL at all. Now, collaborative
editing as in collaborative building or scripting, without having to give
somebody access to all your stuff, that'd be interesting to see.

Yes, a closed server limits what can be done, but much can be done already.
Of those things, the first two sound fully doable without involving the
grid in it.

If you're not willing to implement them yourself, you always have the
option to hire people to implement them. There are people on this list who
could do that for you.
