[sldev] [IDEA] Second Life Open Source Developers Forum?

Hi again,

I was wondering if there would be interest in setting up a Second Life Developers Forum. I hope this question does not hit too close to home considering the resources that we do have such as this mailing list and the Second Life Open Source wiki page. I think this would make it easier to organize threads dealing with specific questions about how the Second Life source code works, and would make it easier for users to filter out those threads that aren't as interesting to them. I suppose the wiki could be of use in this area, but to be blunt it's just too slow to navigate and rarely updated for me to peruse regularly.

While I am very happy that we have the existing resources for discussing Second Life development (and that the Lindens released the source code at all!), I don't exactly feel like I'm swimming in documentation. Which in a way is fine; I've been a part of software projects before, and I know how it goes. I just think a forum devoted exclusively to discussing the Second Life source code would help developers fill in the gaps for each other's projects

I'm aware that there are a number of forums already at <http://forums.secondlife.com/forumdisplay.php?s=>. However, it seems to me that even the "Technical Talk" ones seem aimed at "users" of the client who are discussing Second Life as an application or development using LSL. I would be interested in a forum as a resource for developers working with the viewer source code itself.

Squash Otoro
