I really do think that a change of this nature should go live until both the client and server side components are ready - it is going to be too disruptive and unpopular to do this in two stages - whilst a few days between a client release and a rolling restart to introduce the server change might be an acceptable delay between the two, any delay long enough for one of us to implement a third party stop gap is IMHO too long!
