Yeah, great, that will make the rather icky "communicate" window even worse
to use. If I have to keep multiple group chat tabs open just to get the chat
there, even if they are not too active normally, my normal IM conversations
that are stuffed into the very same main window will get lost in lots of
tabs.

Great - so I am officer in a few groups where residents might post questions
in my role as officer, or I am a member of the group and some admin might
pass on information, and now I have to keep them permanently open, instead
of waiting for the first message there to pop up (which in some of them
might maybe happen once a week or less - but if it _does_ happen, I damn
sure want that IM). Why don't you ditch group chat completely? I mean, come
on, IRC is so 90s, that's far to modern, lets go back to BITNET mailinglists
(aka group notices), that's obviously enough for everybody, right?

And since many people won't bother joining actively to group chats,
announcements with mere group IMs are worthless after the proposed change.
Which will turn many helping or community chats into wastelands, too - as
only a rather minor part will bother to join them before they have a
quesiton there, which after your change will fall on deaf ears then ...

What refreshing alternative would it have been had you written that you plan
to make the group chat actually work with big groups finally, so that not a
good deal of group notices get lost somwhere in your servers, but nah, just
drop another useability horror on the residents.

Sometimes I really wonder wether the changes to the chat UI and system are
just intentional malice from the lab ...

bye, Barney
