We seem to be missing something in the process - FirstLook are for getting feedback on major new features (such as voice and windlight) whilst RCs are, as I understand it, meant to be frozen re features/patch integration and just a means of knocking out the rough edges before a main release.

What we are missing is a means to try out a new feature or patch outside of LL, to see if the feature/patch actually solves the problem/requirement intended without causing more problems than it solves.

Group IMs are a good example - we all agree that a means of opting out of Group IMs are a good idea; we generally agree that what has been described in 1.19 isn't too wide of the mark, but wide enough that the general SLDev consensus is that in its current form it isn't workable and will get a pretty negative reception but with a little more work a solution which will be well recieved is possible.

I suppose what I'm talking about is a beta stage? whether that involves real software or just an earlier discussion of forthcoming things on lists like this, I'm not sure.
