I'm definitely in the camp of putting a large useability change into a mandatory client is a bad idea.

The autologin to selected groups feature and serverside support for the group chat changes really is needed. Even still, this is going to hurt chat groups a lot. Itwould really be best to hold back the mandatory release until those are implemented, a least.
