We'll probably find that there are different tastes, habits and opinions
here. I usually run SL not in fullscreen mode, but in a window that is
maximized. That way I still have all functionality available, be it SL
or outside, but maximum viewing angle. I like my 3D view into the world
uncluttered and unfettered, and everything else pushed out of the way,
marginalized. I even use HUD's only sparingly. For me, the big main menu
is where these things should go and stay. I wonder, what speaks against
leaving it that way since we can tear off submenus? I'd say all it takes
is preserving the state and position of a torn off menu across sessions
to accomodate different usage patterns.
