[sldev] Cache politics: performance vs obfuscation

Let us ensure we have the priorities straight.
With Time Warner and other cable modem service providers preparing to implement bytes transferred caps it is imperative that the cache operation overall be improved to ensure there is no repetitive downloading of bytes.

It simply will not matter if the bytes are obfuscated if the population of Secondlife is gutted by a large scale *perceived inability* to afford to participate.

So instead of arguing about politics the emphasis should be on:
1. Increasing the size of the local cache
2. Enhancing the reliability and performance of this local cache

I seriously doubt anyone would complain if some increased protection happened to fall out of those 2 priorities.
However we generally know this possibility is unlikely unless it came in the form of some compression we have not yet considered.

Save SL first. Then worry about the rest.
If SL dies because of consumers *not being aware of their choices in service providers* then nothing really matters does it?

That is where my opinion stands at this time.

Any faster open source image compression libs out there?
