I'd say, have two to five branches (names are suggestions only):

CURRENT - main trunk.
RELEASE - matches what the released client is using.
RC - matches what the RC is using, when there is an RC.
FIRSTLOOK - ditto for First Look.
BETA - ditto for beta.

Everything but CURRENT is a snapshot of what LL built the  
corresponding client with.
