[sldev] Please enable threading on linux! =(

I seem to remember that threading was enabled on linux for a while, why 
has it been disabled again? =(((

I usually get between 8 and 10 fps on my old DDR 266 based dual athlon 
(circa 2003) I could do quite a bit better if even half of my second CPU 
were being used.

Given that most new computers are SMP boxen, why disable this critical 
functionality? =(
