[sldev] checking how the viewer gets Event info

Bleh. I have no idea what I'm reading :-s

I don't suppose anyone has the time for a 1-on-1 walkthrough ? (I don't 
need to be taught the language, just need a sherpa to help me find what 
I'm looking for)
