The Lindens drop down mandatory viewers all the time -- we don't get a choice as to whether we want Windlight (even the dumbed down settings are crippling or not) or whether we want "Showcase" or not or any number of new viewers. That is, sure, someone could go off and use an untrusted third-party viewer and entrust their financial transactions and password to it -- but, um, no thanks.

Sooner or later, viewers become mandatory, and it's important not to allow special interests to creep into them to advantage this or that sectarian group at the expense of others.
