Any of you could experiment with this without any kind of Linden
involvement. It wouldn't be tough to create a channel name based on
the group name, and an existing IRC network could be used for testing.
At this point, a wiki design doc would be more productive than much of
this thread.

The IRC idea seems to make enough sense that someone at the Lab would
likely jump on board if there were a promising prototype. Certainly,
most of the Lindens you see on the sldev list would love to see
another open protocol in use as well.
