[sldev] Option to make minimap display map data?

I had a similar idea I actually discussed with Melinda back in the
days... :) It wouldn't be hard to use the S3 tiles as background for
sure as is done in the map (it will be a tad slower though as,
currently, there's nothing to fetch from any server to display the
minimap). Then overlay on top of that the "symbolic" info that Melinda
and you Aimée are talking about (people, range, camera cone, etc...).
The problem I have with the current display is that, indeed, I only
see gray instead of a legible map of terrain and building. It sort of
defeats the purpose. I've been playing with using the map itself as a
navigation help and found it more usable for exploration (unless I'm
visiting a mall or a covered area).
