I think you're right.  If we're going to have an option to disable it, 
it should be in Preferences.  I forgot how long it took me to find the 
"Advanced" menu (called "Client" back then).  It may be OK to leave the 
option in Advanced as well for a short period, since people who have 
already used it expect it there.
