I don't imagine there would be any restrictions on the distribution of a 
plug-in that you build, assuming that you don't construct it from any 
GPL'ed or otherwise restricted software. What a user *does* with it is 
another matter and I expect that would depend upon the policies of the 
people running any servers that your software might talk to, but that 
should have nothing to do with software licensing, and would be more of 
an issue for your users than for yourself. In other words, writing and 
distributing code that talks to a protocol should be fine. Just be 
careful with what you build it out of and what you do with it. Oh, and 
be sure to make sure that your users know that you won't take any 
responsibility for what they do with it.
