Given I already got what I asked for first I'll fire off my next suggestion:
Now that we've a more frequent set of RC's is there any chance we can
see more Lindens posting patches in an externally visible way? Now
we're limited to extracting changes from the SL source once we get the
RC. But obviously this is not ideal as you no longer have the logical
split between different work. Getting individual patches makes it
easier to avoid things going wrong as it's easier to see small
oversights if you see the changed code that addresses a specific
issue.

Off course this won't be possible for all patches but for more minor
stuff it should be doable. You could for example attach a final patch
to all VWR-* issues when you set them to "fixed internally".

The additional effort needed to do this should pay back as it'll again
speed up the process of outside input. It also makes for a good cycle.
As soon as an external patch is accepted and the issue is fixed
internally the final patch (that may not always be identical to what
is submitted) can be posted and reviewed by the external contributors.

The more this grows the more internal and external developers will mix
and overall productivity and QA should go up.
