[sldev] [VWR] Reflections/Mirrors?

At a recent meeting, a colleague demonstrated his work integrating reflections into a certain game engine, and claimed that this is something that could not be done with Second Life. I wasn't so sure, as graphics are rendered on the client and the client is open-source, what's stopping someone from integrating such code into it?

In any event, it seems that reflections have been a consideration of the lindens since at least January of 2007, since they were accessible in a "First Look" client from that time according to these videos: http://secondslog.blogspot.com/2007/01/first-look-into-mirror.html

I do not see this option in the existing viewer, and when I hunt for mirrors that actually reflect on slboutique or go looking for them in world, they are strangely absent. Must I still go into debug mode and fiddle with those setting to make reflections possible? Has this "First Look" code made it into main viewer yet?
