And, in fact, they haven't gotten into a silly arms race.
All they've done is maintain a more or less even level of
inconvenience, to make sure that it's clear to someone bypassing the
honor system permissions that they're going outside the honor system,
which is about all they can do.
If you poke the anthill you start getting bit by no-perm sculpty
objects and people running copybot detectors that spam you 24/7. If
you don't poke the anthill you don't get bit. The bites aren't more
than an annoyance, but, damn, I for one can do without 'em.
