[sldev] Client crash bug when opening map view

[Synthalor Mandelbrot]

Count Synthalor Mandelbrot with the same experience!  Open the map, it starts to hum but doesn't sing and then goes silent.  Sorry, but I haven't found enough "copious free time" to tangle with it myself, yet.
