[sldev] Version control repository

I also lean toward a read-only SVN being the official repository, and
letting people manage their own mini branches. That's well known by now
though. :)

I've read some on Mercurial and it actually looks very nice. I get the
feeling "well that's how I would have done it if I were presented with that
problem to solve", and that's usually a good thing.

So I can live in whatever world is settled on. I admit I have not used a
distributed version control system before (though I have used centralized
ones in a distributed way many times), so I may be biased.
