This is a bigger problem than just Farallon's "sparks". I just used  
Coadey Concord's Aurora Wings for the first time in a long time and  
they show the problem very effectively: the "Follow Source" behavior  
they depend on is really broken in the current particle system. When  
flying at a high speed, you "shed feathers"... a problem they didn't  
have earlier. It's like "Follow Source" is being applied periodically  
to "fix up" the positions of the particles, rather than being applied  
as they're moved. If this is a performance enhancement it's an  
unfortunate one.
