I think we definitely are.

I think one of the main improvements is that OSS developers don't
necessarily have to work on the most urgent stuff, so we're getting a
lot more optimizations and fixes for issues like the notifications
ordering than we would otherwise.

Nothing I can think of ATM

Main one is that the source releases are too infrequent, and while not a
very big problem right now, I think it'll eventually become annoying. It
probably won't be long until people will start trying to offer their
patched client to other people, and merging a version worth of changes
at once could be annoying. It also makes it harder to see where
development is going. The release team sounds like it'd fix this. If so,
then great :-)

Jira annoyances: it's slow as molasses, and the jira client while it
mitigates the problems a lot can't be used for everything because auth
doesn't seem to work. Since Rob mentioned scalability is hard, I think
fixing auth would be a very good temporary relief.

Server source code: Been said already, but a pretty big one. I'm
starting to bump into that something I want implemented would need
server changes. I would go ahead and patch the server too, if I could.

Also in that case having the server source would make it
a lot easier to determine whether a feature would require something
impractical server-side and thus not worth trying to do at all.

A suggestion: give credit to whoever fixed a bug when publishing
changelogs on the blog, resident or Linden.
