I always thought the random selection looked pretty awful, but its
better than nothing. Really it would be nice to more intelligently
allocate particles, so that the total particle limit is fairly split up
between systems, new particles are always emitted when they're scheduled
to do so, killing off the oldest particles, from *that* system only, as
necessary.
