Thanks for the questions, folks. I'm in the midst of moving pages and
editing the AWG homepage and category space, so some of the
inconsistencies you've noticed may now be resolved or will be shortly.
Meanwhile, here's some more info on the what and the why of our recent
wiki wrangling.
* Rationale
Our goal has been to narrow the scope of the AWG homepage
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Architecture_Working_Group> and AWG
category
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:Architecture_Working_Group>
space so that it's easier to see what needs to be done and navigate to
the places where work has been done. I've made every effort not to
orphan pages. All the pages linked off the old homepage or AWG category
are now (one or all of the following):
- referenced off the new homepage, according to the logical section it
belongs under (e.g., responses to the architecture overview from meeting
1 are now linked off the AWG Meeting 1
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/AWG_Meeting_1> page)
- referenced via a category, depending on scope (e.g., AWG, AWGroupies,
or VAG). I removed the AWG category from many pages but left all other
categories intact.
- moved to user space. If a page was not associated with a category and
had a dominant author, I moved it to that person's user space. Feel free
to link user pages to appropriate categories (e.g., The Incubator, AW
Groupies).
* Vetting pages for inclusion in AWG wiki space
I encourage people to develop their ideas in user space. Once you've got
a mature design document, then bring it up at Zero's office hours
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Zero_Linden#Office_Hours> or at
the weekly open source meeting
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Open_Source_Meeting>. Provided the
topic is within the scope of AWG, we can then determine what section of
the AWG wiki space it belongs in and hammer out any design details or
next steps. Mark's Geometry Based Architecture
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Burhop_Piccard/Geometry_Based_Architecture_View>
page is a good example of something that is ready to be vetted at a meeting.
If a doc is outside the AWG scope but of obvious interest to members of
the community, then you're welcome to move it into The Incubator area
where it can receive better visibility and more development than in user
space alone. Or, the doc might find a home in the VAG or AW Groupies
category areas. It's up to you. (By "move", I mean that you add a
category to your document. "Moving" into one of the category spaces
above may or may not involve renaming a page.)
* Naming pages
I reclaimed some high-level page names for AWG in order to prevent
confusion. For example, as our work process gets more complex, we may
need a whole page for AWG Process
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/AWG_Process>, rather than just the
page section <https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/About_AWG#Process>we have
now. Zha Ewry had already created the page "AWG Process" and started a
great discussion there. I moved that to Zha's user space as Proposed AWG
Process
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User_talk:Zha_Ewry/Proposed_AWG_Process>.
Once that proposal is more seasoned, then it can be vetted in a meeting
and the ideas moved into the high-level "AWG Process" page.
As a general note, when making wiki pages please take care to choose
page names that will not cause confusion. Developing proposals in user
space will help keep high-level page names free for seasoned documents.
I'm putting AWG wiki wrangling on the agenda for this week's open source
meeting for further discussion. If you're concerned about any particular
edits, let me know.
Cheers,
L
