I think the best option would be to request a signed *session*. The  
server would retain a copy of the session from the request to start  
signing it through the time you log out, leave that sim (if it's a  
chat log), or you request signing end. Then it would mail you a PGP- 
signed or otherwise authenticated copy of the session. It wouldn't  
really involve the client other than the user interface for  
requesting that a chat or IM session be signed.
