Hi, folks.

There have been a few licensing questions raised on list lately, and I
wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update on licensing.

First off, I want to assure you that there are real humans behind
licensing at lindenlab.com (aka the bit bucket, black hole, /dev/null). I
apologize that in many cases we have been very slow to respond to your
inquiries, but it's getting better. Looking at the
open-source-code-related licensing questions in my queue, I see that
more than half of the queries have been answered and the rest have
received an update. Recently, I put a new ticketing system in place. If
your original email was sent before this system went live, and your
question has not yet been resolved, then I've created a ticket for you
and you should have received a message with a tracking number. (If you
haven't received a ticket # and feel that your question has not yet been
answered, then please send your question to licensing at lindenlab.com
again or contact me directly.)

Secondly, I'd like to reiterate that the best possible way to ensure
that your licensing question gets properly logged, investigated and
answered is to send it to licensing at lindenlab.com. (Questions asked on
sldev may get lost in the general list noise.) Each of you who have
recently sent a question to licensing at lindenlab.com should have received
a reply with a ticket number. This indicates that your question is in
our to-do list. We will address it as soon as we can.

Finally, regarding some of the questions raised on list lately, I can
let you know that we are actively working on the following topics and
issues related to them. Once I have further information, I will send it
to the list.
* Subject: Can I include source licensed under the 3-clause BSD?
* Subject: Artwork licence (Will Linden allow its trademarks to be used
in a Debian distro? Will Linden replace CC By-SA v2.5 with v3.0?)
* Subject: Working on an installer, anybody figured out licensing yet_

Cheers,
Liana
